‘A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.’
At Ashmount children have access to high quality technology and equipment throughout the school year so that they can tinker and develop their skills right from Nursery. In the EYFS, teachers plan opportunities for children to complete a simple programme on a computer, use ICT hardware to interact with age appropriate software and recognise that a range of technology is used at home and at school. Teachers enable the learning environment, ensuring that there are opportunities within provision areas for children to develop their understanding of technology.
The Primary National Curriculum for Computing at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 is split into three strands: information technology, digital literacy and computer science.
At Ashmount we teach computing weekly in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. We teach the Primary National Curriculum objectives through a scheme of work that we developed with Islington and their computing lead teacher. The scheme is high quality, engaging and ensures clear progression over time. Each half term has a different focus, shared by all the year groups but with progressively more complex outcomes and contexts.
