The different subjects that we teach at Ashmount Primary School.

English

Explore
At Ashmount, English sits at the heart of our curriculum – it is through language, story and text that children learn to form concepts, connect ideas and express themselves. Through literacy, in all its forms, children learn to both make sense of the world and shape their place within it.

Phonics

Explore
At Ashmount Primary School we believe that the teaching of phonics is vital in order for children to become competent readers and writers. We strive to ensure that all children become successful, fluent readers by the end of Year 2. We believe this is achievable through a combination of strong, high quality, discrete phonics teaching combined with a whole language approach that promotes a ‘Reading for Pleasure’ culture.

Maths

Explore
At Ashmount Primary School we strongly believe that all children can become confident, creative and successful mathematicians. We are passionate about maths and want our children to feel that way too!

Arts - Music, Art and Design Technology

Explore
At Ashmount, we really value the arts and place a strong emphasis on developing children’s creativity and skills in the areas of music, art and design and design and technology.

French

Explore
At Ashmount French is taught to all year groups with class teachers being supported in class by a French speaking colleague and following a nationally recognised curriculum. We enrich the final year of this programme by a year 6 visit to France.

PSHCE

Explore
At Ashmount me take a holistic view of how all are children develop personally, socially, healthily and through the development of their skills to become good citizens. This follows the London Borough of Islington’s agreed syllabus and covers an array of topic in an age appropriate way.

Computing

Science

Explore
Our science curriculum allows children to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement, curiosity and interest about natural phenomena.

Religious Education

Explore
Ashmount is part of a wonderfully diverse community and we take a global view of faith. Our values of community, responsibility and growth are at the heart of how we teach RE.

Humanities - History and Geography

Explore
At Ashmount, we use a creative, thematic based programme called ‘ProspectUs’ to deliver our History and Geography curriculum. We have handpicked the themes and personalised our planning to match the interests and needs of our children.
