At Ashmount Primary School, the intent of our curriculum is to ensure that our pupils access a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that promotes a love of learning. By the end of each key stage, pupils will have embedded the essential knowledge and skills needed to progress onto the next stage of their education, into their long term memory. The knowledge and skills which are taught are underpinned by the principles of the National Curriculum.
The National Curriculum is the starting point for our pupils’ wide and varied learning experiences and we are committed to developing the whole child. Our pupils will have a wide range of opportunities during their time at Ashmount Primary School which will prepare them for their future.
The curriculum is designed to enable our pupils to become active members of society and to take an active part in Britain and in the wider world throughout their lives. Our curriculum aims to help our pupils develop an understanding of local, national and international perspectives as well as an awareness of what it means to be British. Ultimately, it is designed to help ensure our pupils to become lifelong learners.
The following factors influence the design of our curriculum:
- The diversity of our community here in North London
- Children’s needs and interests
- Pupil Premium Grant (PPG): 49.6% of pupils are eligible
- Our setting on the Parkland Walk
Our curriculum is structured to ensure a clear sequence of learning that builds on children’s prior knowledge, skills and experiences.
As a Growth Mindset school, we recognise the need to continually reflect upon and refine our curriculum by considering what is making the most difference to children’s learning. We therefore ensure that our curriculum remains under constant review; ensuring it is fit for purpose, matches our context, is in line with our vision and ethos and meets the needs of all our pupils.
